Dr. Katie Walshaw: Katie holds an Honours Bachelor of Music from Wilfrid Laurier University specializing in music theory and voice, a Master’s Degree in Music Theory and a Ph. D. specializing in Theory, both from the University of Western Ontario. She began singing at the age of five and was an active member of the Brant County Youth Singers (Brantford Children’s Chorus) for more than six years. As a singer, Katie has been the soprano section lead at St. Andrew’s United Church in Brantford for sixteen years. She is an active member of Brantford’s own Arcady, where she provides leadership as a mentor to both incoming young performers and the Arcady youth chorus. Katie frequently appears as a soloist with the group and has also performed as a soloist for Maestro Boris Brott. She made her debut as “Naomi” in Ron Beckett’s opera Ruth in 2015. Katie lives in Brantford with her husband where they share a thriving voice, piano, and theory studio.
