General

  1. The Brant Music Festival reserves the right to refuse any entry or cancel any class, with the exception of this rule, entry fees will NOT be refunded.
  2. The Brant Music Festival reserves the right to divide or combine classes.
  3. Where age limits are specified, participants must be of the prescribed age on December 31st of the previous year.
  4. All classes are open to amateurs. As per the OMFA syllabus, section 1.3, “amateur” is defined as: “A music student or any person whose principal means of livelihood is not obtained from the performance of music in the particular category in which he/she is competing even though from time to time such a person is in receipt of remuneration for musical services rendered, but not on a full-time basis. Persons possessing either ACTRA or EQUITY full membership cards are considered professional and are therefore ineligible for Provincial Competitions unless they are competing in a discipline that is not in-line with the reasons for their membership.”
  5. Please note that the Brant Music Festival will run from 9:00 AM to 9:30 PM Monday – Saturday. Participants are expected to perform at their scheduled time. No changes once the programme has been set.
  6. Any special rules applicable to a particular section or class will be deemed part of the official rules.

General Performance

  1. The most recent RCM, Royal Conservatory of Music, and CC Conservatory Canada syllabus MUST be used.
  2. All pieces must be performed from memory, unless otherwise stated. The use of music will result in adjudication ONLY, with no mark given.
  3. Unless otherwise specified, all instrumental pieces must be played without repeats. Da Capos and Dal Segnos must be observed.
  4. Time limits, where specified, will be strictly enforced.
  5. A piece may not be used in more than one class, with the exception of PROVINCIAL QUALIFYING classes.
  6. During quick study and sight reading classes the room will be closed to the public. They return in for the adjudication.
  7. For accompanists, photocopies of copyrighted music will be allowed, provided there is a second original copy in the room. Participants must provide their own accompanist. No taped accompaniment.
  8. All participants must supply an original copy of their piece, with bar measures numbered, for the adjudicator. No photocopies are allowed. If the participant is using music for any reason (ie. duet, adjudication only) they must have an original copy for both themselves and the adjudicator.

Entries

  1. All entries must be received by March 1, 2021 and accompanied by the correct fee stated for each class. Late entries will not be accepted.
  2. Cheques should be made payable to BRANT MUSIC FESTIVAL and mailed to: 27 King’s Hill Lane, Brantford, ON N3T 6A3
  3. E-transfers may be addressed to finance@brantmusicfestival.ca
  4. Participants are limited to one entry per class.
  5. For duets or ensemble classes only one entry form is required. Please make sure all participant names and birthdays are clearly marked.
  6. Participant’s performing schedules will be forwarded to both the teacher and the participant.
  7. It is highly recommended that you fill the online application form for neatness and accuracy.
  8. Adjudicators may not evaluate their own students.
  9. The adjudicator will discuss the performance of each participant but only the marks of 3rd, 2nd and 1st will be read out loud. Everyone will receive a written report.
  10. To be considered for an award, you must compete in 2 or more solo classes, (not including quick study or sight reading)
  11. Videotaping and photography are allowed by family of their own child, NEVER of the adjudication.
  12. Signing of the registration gives permission for use of photos on the website or newspaper.
  13. Questions and complaints should be directed to the board at the above address, and not directly with the adjudicator.
  14. ADJUDICATORS DECISIONS ARE FINAL.
